LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE

SUMMARY
Provides nursing care according to Cherokee Nation's policies, standing orders, and as ordered by the physician or mid-level in the ambulatory setting.

JOB DUTIES
Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Rooms patients. Takes and records vital signs. Screens patients according to Cherokee Nation's policies. Orders lab and x-rays according to Cherokee Nation's policies and standing orders. Administers medications, immunizations, and treatments according to standing orders, and/or provider orders. Operates a variety of medical equipment. Documents observations, referrals and nursing interventions according to CN documentation standards. Assists the provider with diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical procedures and exams. Provides patient education and self management support. Obtains lab specimens as needed. Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities using the Model for Improvement. Participates as part of the care team. Maintains HIPAA compliance and confidentiality at all times and protects all personal health information as it relates to patient data. 
 
Specific to Jack Brown Center:
Provides health education to students/clients at a minimum of four hours per week in health promotion and disease prevention issues (i.e. hygiene, tobacco misuse, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, sexually transmitted infections, family planning, etc) as required by regulatory agencies. Ensures that students/clients with communicable diseases are treated and return to daily activities as soon as possible. Coordinates vision, hearing, and dental screenings. Oversees student medication administration and ensures that the medication reconciliation system is utilized. Other duties may be assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
 
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should have knowledge of Database software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possess and maintain an Oklahoma Board of Nursing Approved License. Must be currently certified in CPR & maintain throughout employment. Must obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within one year of employment and maintain throughout employment. 
 
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care. Employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
 
Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.
