FAMILY ADVOCATE II

SUMMARY
Interview clients to access and determine needs; develops short and long-range goals to promote self-sufficiency plan/work with Internal and External agencies to develop immediate and long-range plans for clients and develop and carry out policies and procedures of the program and organization.

DUTIES
Provides technical assistance to Family Advocate I in case/management and Family Assistance Department database procedures. Interview applicants determining needs and eligibility for assistance. Makes home visits as necessary. Determines the nature and extent of the applicant's problems. Receives and reviews applications for the continuation of direct financial assistance and initiates procedures to determine the continuation of benefits. Makes determination on each client's eligibility for Tribal and other social service programs. Promotes client's self-sufficiency by counseling clients in modifying attitudes, patterns of behavior and assessing the employability of clients. Maintains liaison with Tribal, State and County agencies to coordinate and avoid duplication of services. Maintains required records and provides reports as assigned. Computes the amount of financial assistance for which each client is eligible. Counsel clients receiving assistance in-home financial matters. Develops an Individual Service Plan which outlines strengths and weaknesses and identifies short term and long term goals. Input information received into the computer database for upload to management for final review. Other duties may be assigned.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities are required.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university in Social Work or related field; no substitutions.
 
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
An additional three years of experience in a related field.
 
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software and Word Processing software.
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have good computer skills for database software. Ability to communicate in Cherokee would be a tremendous asset for a family advocate.
 
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for childcare. Employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers; or listed on the OIG’s list of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
