Archaeologist, GS-0193-09/11

Ten (10) positions will be filled from this announcement. Each Unit has one vacancy but some Units are offering several duty station locations. You must apply for the duty location to be considered for any or all of these locations.

The responsibilities listed are at the full performance level. Position supervises 20% or less of the time.
  • Provide consultation and advice to personnel regarding cultural resource matters to resolve problems.
  • Consult with recognized Indian Tribes under provisions of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) to discuss concerns, ensure compliance, and assess impact.
  • Coordinate the budget and project plan of work for archeological and cultural activities.
  • Prepare maps, inventories, reports, and records relative to the discovery, protection, inventory, salvage, and interpretation of heritage and cultural resource areas to provide support to survey crew.
  • Plan and execute surveys for the location and verification of archeological and historical sites.
  • Prepare technical approval for documentation that require synthesis of archeological/historical research to support archeological projects. such as contracts, National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility criteria, and internal reports.
  • Provide heritage and cultural resource management orientation to Unit personnel on statutes, regulations and purpose of work to be performed.
  • Plan and execute surveys for the location and verification of archeological and historical sites.
  • Evaluate on-site factual reporting of excavation and/or survey findings to act upon and implement corrective measures.
  • Administer archeological examination of road, reservoir, recreation, and other ground disturbing projects where archeological materials may be subject to destruction or damage for protection and mitigation of cultural sites.
