Location: Natural Resources Building- Olympia, WA.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Executive Budget and Business Operations section. We are looking for a journey level fiscal professional. This position holds the responsibility of reviewing, preparing and providing financial reports for the Budget and Business Operations staff and managers to be able to make the best business decisions for the agency, the state and the public. This position is responsible for providing effective, efficient and accurate accounting and technical reporting expertise; accurate and timely financial and grant information; and responsive customer service.

Responsibilities:
The position monitors and reports on payables and receivables and provides timely projections regarding statewide program costs for two divisions. This position conducts research to determine trends, inefficiencies and areas for improvement in cost accounting, expenditures and fiscal processes. This position provides information and training to other staff for travel or other reimbursements, credit card use, and invoice payment/coding.

Required Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field
  • OR a combination of education and/or experience to include 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting.
  • Two years of relevant professional experience in accounting or budgeting.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices, math skills and reasoning. 
  • Fiscal and clerical experience with exposure to accounts payable and/or payroll processing.
  • Experience performing a variety of advanced and complex accounting and financial tasks.
  • Experience using Word Processing, spreadsheet and advanced applications of financial management-related software programs.
  • Experience in preparing financial reports and statements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a part of a team on assigned tasks.
  • Proven analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Strong time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and organize workloads. Attention to detail. Reliability to be on the job, and ability to work independently or as a productive team member when needed.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Employees of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Desired Qualifications: 
  • A Master’s degree in a financial related field, certification as a Public Accountant, Internal Auditor, Certified Governmental Financial Manager or Management Accountant can be substituted for professional experience.
  • Experience in government accounting, preferably dealing with a myriad number of revenue-generating accounts.
  • Excellent keyboard and ten key skills.
