Job Overview

Performs system engineering, installation, upgrades, and advanced troubleshooting of multi-platform hardware/software solutions for enterprise network servers, storage systems, backup systems, personal computers, peripherals, and end user devices. Manages complex enterprise technology projects in accordance with established project management methodology.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Information Technology / MIS or a related engineering field and four years of experience implementing, troubleshooting and supporting enterprise level hardware / software solutions for Cloud hosted and on-premise Information Technology Systems. Must have experience Managing Complex Information Technology Projects as a Team Lead or Project Manager and have proficiency and high levels of competency in the following disciplines:
  • Four or more years deploying, managing, administering and troubleshooting Windows Servers. Specifically, demonstrated proficiency managing Windows Server 2016, 2019 and Windows Server 2022 in an Enterprise Environment is required.
  • Four years managing / administering an Enterprise level Virtual Infrastructure. Specifically, demonstrated proficiency managing a Hyper-V or VMWare environment is required.
  • Four years managing / administering system level and bare metal backups using Enterprise level data backup systems such as Cohesity, Rubric, NetBackup, Veeam, CommVault or similar products is required.
  • Four years managing / administering Enterprise Patch Management Solutions like Microsoft WSUS, Microsoft SCCM, Avast or similar products is required.
  • Two years’ experience managing / leading complex Information Technology Projects as a Team Lead, Subject Matter Lead/Expert or as a Project Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.
  • Engineer’s solutions using established technology standards to develop multi-platform hardware/software solutions for enterprise network servers, storage systems, backup systems, personal computers, peripherals, and end user devices. 
  • Provides Tier-2 and Tier-3 technical support for escalated complex issues in supporting multiple infrastructure platforms related to enterprise network servers, storage systems, backup systems, personal computers, peripherals, and end user devices.
  • Performs project management duties on complex technology projects in accordance with established project management methodology.
  • Acts as team technical liaison for externally managed technology projects originating from the Enterprise Project Management Office as well as other Departments and provide project management mentoring for Network Administrators.
  • Performs remedial troubleshooting for hardware and software systems, preventative maintenance, patching and upgrades for enterprise network servers, storage systems, backup systems, personal computers, peripherals, and end user devices.
  • Performs data backup and restores of server applications, databases, and user data files.
  • Performs tape management duties.
  • Develops, edits, and presents technical designs, network diagrams, project plans and other technical reports.
  • Performs user account management functions. 
  • Creates, deletes, or transfers user and email accounts and manages access control based on enterprise policies and procedures.
  • Performs as supervisor to oversee subordinate technical personnel engaged in performance of installation, maintenance and support of hardware and software systems.
  • Provides mentoring and training to peers and subordinates.     
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Specifications

  • Knowledge of industry project methodologies and use of documentation platforms for project and technical documentation.
  • Considerable knowledge of enterprise infrastructure engineering, design, and architecture of multi-platform hardware/software solutions for enterprise network servers, storage systems, backup systems, personal computers, peripherals, and end user devices.
  • Knowledge of information security practices and applicable laws related to information security and their effective application in a like environment.
  • Considerable knowledge of industry standards, characteristics, features and troubleshooting methods associated with network server x86 platforms and virtual servers running Windows and Linux operating systems, server-based applications, network storage systems and enterprise level backup systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of industry standards, features and troubleshooting methods of computers, end user devices, desktop operating systems, end-user applications, and desktop management software associated with personal computers, peripherals, and end-user devices.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple complex projects and tasks to meet delivery dates.
  • Ability to develop, edit, and present technical designs, network diagrams, project plans and other technical reports.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex hardware/software technical issues associated with enterprise network servers, storage systems, backup systems, personal computers, peripherals, and end user devices.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and provide superior customer service to end-users.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to end-users, vendors, management, and peers.
Physical Requirements

  • Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
  • Work is usually performed in an office environment.
Work Category

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in information technology or related engineering field; AND
  • Four years of experience troubleshooting and supporting enterprise level hardware/software solutions for network servers, storage systems, backup systems, personal computers, peripherals and end user devices, and experience managing complex enterprise technology projects in accordance with established project management methodology; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education (not less than a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
Emergency Management Responsibilities
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, the County’s Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
